Updated at: 07 January 2025
The road modernization project in Sh. Milandhoo has been successfully
completed.
The agreement for the project was signed on March 12, 2020, and construction
commenced in September of the same year. The project, valued at MVR
156,477,632.23, is currently undergoing final inspection by the Ministry of
Construction and Infrastructure.
The initiative involved the modernization of nine roads spanning a total
length of 6.3 kilometers. Key features of the project include the installation
of a stormwater drainage network, cable ducts, and a drainage system equipped
with stormwater pumps. All roads have been paved with tar, ensuring durability
and improved usability.
The project faced delays due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The agreement
was signed on the day a state of public health emergency was declared in the
Maldives, forcing the company to suspend ongoing projects. Transportation
challenges and restrictions on travel to rural areas further contributed to the
postponement of construction work in Milandhoo.
Despite the setbacks, the completion of this
project marks a significant milestone in improving the island's infrastructure.
The upgraded roads are expected to alleviate flooding issues, enhance
connectivity, and improve the overall quality of life for the residents of
Milandhoo.
