The Gdh. Gahdhoo Road Construction Project is well underway, with 65% of the work completed.
As part of the ongoing efforts, construction on Sharial Ameer Magu’s water drainage system, street lighting, and paving is currently in progress. The equipment required for asphalt laying has been delivered to the site, and preparations, including area cleaning and mobilization of construction teams, are actively underway.
Gahdhoo is the second most populous island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, with approximately 1,760 residents. The island's deteriorating road conditions have long been a concern for its community, making this project a crucial development.
The project will modernize six major roads on the island: Sharial Ameer Magu, Violet Magu, Orchid Magu, Handhuvaree Magu, Ameer Ahmed Magu, and Vathabadeyri Magu. This initiative includes paving a total of 6 kilometers of road, installing a stormwater drainage system, streetlights, and all necessary electrical cables for road lighting.
The project, awarded to RDC at a cost of MVR 138 million, is being executed under the road design and building policy of GDh. Gahdhoo Major Roads. An agreement was signed between the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and RDC, stipulating a completion timeline of 751 days.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and improve living conditions for the residents of Gahdhoo.
