The Fitness and Recreation Centre
developed in M. Mulah by the Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been
successfully completed and officially opened to the public.
The facility was inaugurated by the
First Lady, Madam Sajidha Mohamed, at a special ceremony held on the island.
The ceremony was attended by the
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Abdulla Rafiu; the Minister of Health, Family and Social
Services, Geela Ali; the Member of Parliament for the Mulah Constituency, Ibrahim
Naufal; RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem; as well as members of the Mulah
Council and senior officials from various government institutions.
The Mulah Recreation and Fitness
Centre has been developed to accommodate a wide range of recreational
activities, including carrom, billiards, table tennis, and foosball (garlando).
The facility also features two badminton courts, two volleyball courts,
restroom facilities, and a dedicated administrative office.
The construction of a fitness centre
in Mulah had long been a key aspiration of the island's youth and residents.
Although the project had previously been assigned to several parties,
construction had not commenced. During President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's official
visit to the islands of Meemu Atoll, he met with the residents of Mulah and
pledged to ensure the project's completion within the shortest possible
timeframe.
The project was officially awarded
to RDC on 29 March 2025, with construction commencing on 18 September 2025.
Implemented under the Government's Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP),
the project was completed at a cost of MVR 3,387,706.00 within the contractual
period of 180 days.
Upon completion, the new facility is
expected to provide a modern recreational and fitness space for the residents
of Mulah, promoting healthier lifestyles, youth engagement, and community
well-being.
