Major Road Development Projects in Addu City Officially Commence

The implementation of a major road construction and redevelopment programme in Addu City has officially commenced, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s efforts to modernize urban and rural road infrastructure in the southernmost city.
The projects include the redevelopment of the Addu City Link Road as well as the construction and upgrading of roads in the connected islands of Hithadhoo and Feydhoo under the Addu City Rural Roads Development Project.
The commencement of the projects took place during the official visit of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to Addu City, highlighting the Government’s commitment to improving connectivity, safety, and living standards for residents of the city.
The road development works were formally inaugurated by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib. The inauguration ceremonies were attended by several Members of Parliament, including the Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo Central, Mr. Ahmed Azan Marzooq; the Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo North, Mr. Mohamed Sinaan; the Member of Parliament for Feydhoo South, Mr. Ibrahim Didi; and the Member of Parliament for Feydhoo North, Mr. Ismail Nizar. Also present were the Managing Director of the Corporation, Mr. Ibrahim Nazeem, and other senior officials.
As part of the programme, the redevelopment of the Addu City Link Road was officially launched, alongside the start of construction works on roads in Hithadhoo. In addition, road development works in Feydhoo have commenced, aimed at upgrading key routes within the island to modern standards and improving access to essential public institutions and residential areas.
In line with national policy on rural and urban road development, priority is given to upgrading roads serving key community institutions and those that are severely deteriorated. The Corporation is currently undertaking road construction and modernization projects across multiple islands in the Maldives, contributing to improved connectivity and sustainable infrastructure development nationwide.
