New Futsal Ground Officially Opened in Th. Thimarafushi

The futsal
ground developed in Th. Thimarafushi under the Government’s Public Sector
Investment Programme (PSIP) has been officially opened, providing the island
with a modern sporting facility for the community.
The facility
was inaugurated by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness,
Abdulla Rafiu, during a special ceremony held on the island. The event was
attended by the Corporation’s Deputy Managing Director, Mohamed Nabeeh Afeef,
senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness,
and residents of all age groups.
The project
was awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) on 31 July 2025 at a
contract value of MVR 1,634,489.00, with a contractual completion period of 120
days.
The scope of
the project included the construction of the ground’s sub-base, installation of
artificial turf, benches, and floodlighting to provide a high-quality
recreational facility for the island.
The
completion of the futsal ground is expected to encourage greater participation
in sports, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide a safe and modern venue for
recreational and community activities in Th. Thimarafushi.
