Asphalt Works Begin on Maamigili Road Project

The asphalt works under the Adh. Maamigili Road Construction Project have
officially commenced, marking a key milestone in the project’s implementation.
The asphalt works were inaugurated by the Minister of Construction, Housing
and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, at a ceremony held on the island.
The event was attended by the Corporation’s Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim
Nazeem; Maamigili Council President, Mr. Imad Farooq; and other senior
officials.
The Maamigili Road Construction Project is
currently 89 percent complete. Implemented under the design-and-build model,
the project includes the construction and paving of roads, carriageways, and
sidewalks. It also encompasses the installation of road gutters, a stormwater
management system, speed breakers, road signage, and street lighting.
According to project details, all works except
for the pump stations and final asphalt surfacing have already been completed.
The project commenced on 26 September 2020 and is being implemented at a total
cost of MVR 95,043,314.41.
Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly enhance road
safety, accessibility, and overall infrastructure standards for the residents
of Maamigili.
