A momentous occasion unfolded in N. Kendhikulhudhoo as the
Minister for Economic Development & Trade, Mr. Mohamed Saeed, alongside
RDC's Managing Director, Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair, joined senior
officials from the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, Kendhikulhudhoo
Council members, and RDC's Senior Management team for the groundbreaking ceremony
of the N. Kendhikulhudhoo road development project.
The road project, awarded to RDC in June 2023 at a cost of
MVR 90,894,554.10, aims to modernize 8 roads on the island.
This comprehensive project encompasses various tasks aimed
at enhancing infrastructure and improving road networks. These tasks include
the construction of new asphalt roads, detailed surveys for design purposes,
and the development of a comprehensive stormwater management system.
Additionally, the project involves conducting an environmental impact
assessment in compliance with the requirements of the environmental project
agency (EPA).
Furthermore, the project entails constructing sidewalks with
drainage gutters, utility line junctions, tree pits, curbstones, and
interlocking zigzag blocks. It also includes installing road markings, speed
breakers, road sign boards, and road lights with foundations, along with laying
the necessary electrical cables for lighting.
The initiation of this project signifies a significant step
towards enhancing N. Kendhikulhudhoo's road infrastructure and fostering
progress and development on the island.
